GIZ International Services (IS) is an integral division of GIZ. We offer the experience, the regional and technical know-how of GIZ in the global market and provide international clients with expertise in terms of economic and result-oriented services.
GIZ International Services is going to submit a proposal for the forecasted EU financed project “Nigeria-Abuja: EDF-Technical assistance for ‘EU support to ECOWAS regional peace, security and stability mandate (EU-ECOWAS PSS)’”.

The objectives of the project are to strengthen the institutional capacity of the ECOWAS commission in conflict prevention and resolution, and implement selected thematic components of the Ecowas conflict prevention framework in ACP and West Africa countries. These topics may include early warning, disarmament, election observation, preventive diplomacy. Human rights, mediation/diplomacy, among others, this will be achieved through the technical assistance such as capacity development of the organization, providing policy and expert advice, strengthening of implementation and facilitating of EU cooperation on the one hand, and through administrative assistance such as preparatory and ancillary tasks relating to planning, monitoring, reporting on project components as well as the day-to-day relations and dialogue with the ECOWAS Commission on the other hand.

Your tasks
As the team leader of the project you will be responsible for planning, managing and allocating the inputs of the long-term and short-term experts’ and ensuring the successful implementation of project activities in close coordination with the main beneficiary institution and the EU to meet the outputs in the Terms of Reference.

The team leader (f/m) will have both, a managerial as well as a technical role in this project. She/he will represent GIZ vis-à-vis the client and lead the development and implementation of GIZ’s work plan.

The team leader also holds the responsibility of timely reporting.

Your profile
Masters’ degree (MA) or PHD in law, international politics or a relevant, related discipline
Several years´experience in institutional capacity building processes and conflict prevention framework in ACP and West Africa countries
Considerable work experiences in EU regulation and procedures and in preparation/facilitation of EU cooperation
Experience in working with the ECOWAS commission or/and in the thematic components of the ECOWAS conflict prevention framework is highly desirable
Excellent communication and facilitation skills, as well as capacity building, training, and interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate and build consensus
Proven team and people leadership/management skills, with a minimum of 5 years in senior management position or team leader in development projects
Culturally adaptable and ready to travel regularly to ACP and West Africa countries
Strong communication skills in spoken and written English, knowledge of French would be an advantage
Assignment period
The intended commencement date of the project will be in the course of 2014 with an implementation period of 60 months.

Information on place of assignment
Abuja, Nigeria with regular business travels to ACP and West Africa countries.
